An example of a parallel kinetic resolution catalyzedby palladium to produce enantioenriched five- and six-memberedN-heterocycles in one pot was developed. Dihydroisoquinolinesand 1H-isoindoles containing a quaternary stereogenic center wereobtained from racemic isocyanides in high yields with goodenantioselectivities under mild conditions. A 6,6′-dipropyl substitutedSPINOL-derived phosphoramidite was used as the chiralligand for the palladium catalyst, resulting in regiodivergent andstereospecific cycloimidoylation. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal the origin of the regio- and enantioselectivityduring the C(sp2)?H imidoylative cyclization process.KEYWORDS: palladium catalysis, enantioselective imidoylation, parallel kinetic resolution, C?H activation, quaternary stereogenic center |
